RPL Announces New Board Leadership and Community‑Focused Plans

Apr 11, 2026

The Rangeley Public Library (RPL) is pleased to announce that Peter Hayes has been elected as the new President of the Library’s Board of Trustees. Hayes brings a strong commitment to long‑term financial stewardship, collaborative leadership, and ensuring the library remains a sustainable and welcoming resource for the entire community. Outgoing President Mary Richards will continue her service to the Board as Vice President. Both Barbara Burgess and Peggy Ellis-Green were re-elected to their Treasurer and Secretary positions.

“Libraries are more than just books,” Hayes notes. “They are the heart of the community.” That belief is reflected in the wide range of services RPL offers to residents and visitors alike. In addition to books and periodicals, the library provides free Wi‑Fi and public computers, access to free ebooks and audiobooks through the Cloud Library app, technology assistance, a no‑cost meeting space, and engaging programming for both adults and children.

To better connect with the community, RPL has also launched a new website at rangeleylibrary.org, where patrons can explore resources, learn about upcoming programs, and stay informed about library news.

The library’s mission is to empower people of all ages to learn, connect, and thrive by providing inclusive access to knowledge, culture, and technology. While honoring its historic character, RPL continues to embrace innovation through programs, resources, and community spaces that inspire curiosity and lifelong learning.

Looking ahead, Board member Robin Leitner recently led a collaborative effort to develop a five‑year strategic plan for the library. The plan identifies four key focus areas: Programs and Community Engagement, Communications and Visibility, Facilities and Physical Space, and Fundraising and Financial Sustainability. The newly elected Executive Committee is committed to advancing these goals to ensure the library’s continued success and relevance.

The Rangeley Public Library’s success depends on the generous support of its donors, the dedication of its volunteers, and the ongoing partnership of the Town of Rangeley and surrounding townships. Together, these efforts ensure the library remains a vibrant, resilient, and welcoming place for the entire community.
