Bookkeeping Services

The Rangeley Public Library seeks an experienced bookkeeping professional or firm to provide bookkeeping services and support the Treasurer in maintaining accurate and timely financial records. The contractor will be responsible for managing routine financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, and providing financial information necessary for reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
Scope of Services
Financial Transaction Management
- Record and categorize all financial transactions.
- Make bank deposits and process payments.
- Manage accounts payable and payroll processing.
- Reconcile bank and financial accounts.
Financial Records and Reporting
- Maintain accurate digital accounting records.
- Monitor actual revenues and expenses against the approved budget and identify significant variances.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting documentation for the Treasurer.
- Provide information required for annual reporting, audits, and tax filings.
Service Expectations
- Deposits processed within five business days of receipt.
- Bills and approved invoices paid within one week of receipt unless otherwise directed.
- Bank and financial account reconciliations completed by the first Friday of each month.
- Monthly financial reports provided to the Treasurer by the first Friday of each month to support preparation for the Board's second-Wednesday meeting.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum two years of bookkeeping experience, preferably with a nonprofit organization, small business, or municipal entity.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks or comparable accounting software.
- Experience with Square or similar point-of-sale/payment systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Location Requirement
The contractor must reside in, or be regularly available within, the Rangeley region to pick up and deposit checks and to perform other duties requiring a local presence.
